On 11th December, the evening took us to Holy Trinity Church in Dartford for Debi’s memorial service, incorporating families from Bexley. The church, set in the heart of the town, spoke warmly of Debi and the strong relationship she has built with the team there — a testament to her compassion and dedication.
Many families shared how much Debi’s support has meant to them, and how important it was that this memorial service was taking place. Candles were laid out on the altar, each one personalised with the name of a loved one being remembered — a simple but deeply touching detail.
As guests arrived, Debi greeted them personally, helping each one light their candle before the service began. The opening notes of Carol of the Bells filled the church, and a hush fell over the congregation as everyone paused to remember those no longer with us. O Holy Night followed — for the second time that day — and proved just as moving.
The minister led a traditional and heartfelt service, accompanied by a beautiful choir whose four voices filled the church with remarkable depth. Readings and poems were shared before attendees were invited to hang their remembrance stars on the tree, while the names of loved ones were read aloud to the gentle backdrop of Walking in the Air played on the organ.
After the service, the congregation enjoyed an organ voluntary while sharing sausage rolls, cakes and mince pies — a warm and uplifting end to the evening. As everyone stepped outside, the church bells rang out across Dartford, marking the true arrival of Christmas.
Well done to Debi, with the support of Jenny, for creating such a meaningful and memorable evening.
